introduction

R00M SERV-ICE is a consult specializing in marketing, design, advertising, retail, fashion, pop-culture and anything particularly noteworthy.

RS is me, David Richardson.

Educated at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with an emphasis in Typography, I have always believed that Design informs everything that we do and see. For the past 20 years, I have enjoyed sharing that idea through a multitude of disciplines and experiences.

I also believe that Design is the details and have worked hard in my career to become versed in all facets of the creative process from start to finish and have always stayed very hands on to ensure the best possible outcome.

While either working as part of a team or leading teams, I quickly identify and shape good ideas, can mentor young and emerging talent and draw on twenty years of successes to ensure the next.

I clearly understand business objectives and the ever evolving need to stay curious, informed and to start with an idea before moving into execution.

It's hard to beat when those things line up and everyone can be proud of the results.

BEGINNINGS

There from the start. Target’s original Bullseye campaign started over 20 years ago with a very small team and some very big ideas.

EVOLUTION

Everyone wanted in and brands actually started paying Target big money to be part of their marketing efforts.

The Target Dog became a beloved value proposition amidst fashion, designer and celebrity efforts.

TODAY

Twenty years later, the Bullseye remains in hand. Sometimes when there is NO Bullseye at all.

DAVID RICHARDSON

David has a rigorous design background. He led at Target Studio to create the recent Clio-winning Bullseye campaign seen in all stores and all current marketing.

He also led the re-invention of target.com, created the brand’s beloved “Hello. Goodbuy.” campaign...launched Target’s plus size brand AVA&VIV...supercharged the C9 athletic brand...created two series of episodic digital content featuring snow and skateboard wunderkind Shaun White (both named Top Ten Interactive Campaigns of the Year by AdAge).

And he took on Target’s entire GROCERY department – with cohesive content in broadcast, digital video, print, out of home, and social. The work achieved record-breaking sales and engagement with each seasonal effort.

Designer and celebrity partnerships – he’s done plenty, right down to dressing Lenny Kravitz in a Cristal-drenched wardrobe fitting. Nice guy. Tiny waist.

Denim, Swim, Home and Beauty categories each achieved all-time sales highs under his watch.

David’s early Target experience led to a position as Group CD on the Payless account, creating campaigns that brought the brand into an entirely new consideration set and reversed sales declines. He also applied his Cheap Chic chops to private label shoe brands like Airwalk and Christian Siriano.

He pitched and won the P.F. Chang’s and spinoff Pei Wei Asian Diner accounts: launching online content featuring its famous chef (with shoppable videos, recipes, and a new brand voice)...rebooting the UX experience...introducing new Graphic Standards...and reviving excitement around a category darling that had seen better days.

Additional brand experience includes Budweiser, Best Buy, Sunglass Hut, NYC Fresh Air Fund and many more.
